Yonkers Speeding Tickets May Result in Jail For Some Drivers

Ticket Defense Lawyers: 914-723-7900
In New York, many drivers do not realize that a simple speeding ticket can result in a jail sentence.  A conviction under the Vehicle Traffic Law for 11-30 mph over the speed limit can result in a sentence of up to 15 days jail.  If you are caught driving even faster, a conviction could result in a 30 day jail sentence.

Please note that law enforcement is not limited to issuing you a ticket under the speeding statutes, in some circumstances you can be issued a reckless driving charge.  This charge is a misdemeanor and can carry up to 180 days in jail.

While very few drivers ever get sentenced to jail for speeding, the possibility for that sanction is available for the court.  So next time, you see your car traveling above the speed limit, remember there are extreme sanctions to speeding and to slow down.
