Fallsburg Town Court is a local court of jurisdiction
located in Sullivan County. Each
year, it adjudicates a myriad of civil, criminal, and traffic matters. These cases are fall within the court’s
jurisdiction because the case in controversy is derived from an issue occurring
with the town.
Not every matter occurring in the town can be heard in this
court. For example, civil cases
are limited up to $3,000.00 in controversy with limited exceptions. Criminal cases are mostly held for
misdemeanor and offenses. Felony
cases are heard in County Court.
This court maintains jurisdiction over all traffic tickets other than
felony traffic tickets.

The town employs two Justices. They are responsible for the
daily functioning of the court. While
they receive help from their court clerks, the Judge holds the ultimate responsibility
for court matters. Prior to taking
the bench, the judges are given an oath of office and are sworn to uphold the
laws of the State.
The Town Justices:
Honorable Justice Ivan Kalter. Judge Kalter is an elected official and his term expires on
12/31/2015. He may be eligible to
run for re-election.
Honorable Justice Robert Scheinman. Judge Scheinman is an elected official
with an expiring term on 12/31/2016.
Court Clerks:
Fallsburg is a part time court. It is able to function in large part due to its court
clerks. Among their many
responsibilities, they help the judge carry out their judicial duties by
answering phone calls, sending out correspondence, and collecting fine
monies. The court has 3 clerks.

Court Sessions:
Court is held twice a week and on an as needed basis.
The Honorable Justice Robert Scheinman holds court every Tuesday
at 5:30 pm.
The Honorable Justice Ivan Kalter holds court every Wednesday
at @ 7:00 pm.
