About The Court

Saugerties Court is a classified as a local court.  As such, it has limited jurisdiction over cases that it can preside over.  In general, most civil cases heard in this court referred to small claims cases.  This can includes landlord tenant matters and petty breaches of contract as well as municipal zoning law violations.  The majority of criminal cases are misdemeanors.  This court also has the power to adjudicate traffic tickets.  Traffic tickets can vary in size and shape.  The main type of ticket heard is a speeding ticket under VTL 1180.

A conviction to a speeding ticket and result in as little as three points against a driver’s license and as much as eleven.  A driver’s speed will dictate the number of points that are assessed against a driver’s license.
