What Happens If I Plead Guilty By Mail

If you fill out “Section A” on your speeding ticket, you will be entering a plea of guilty to the charge.  A plea of guilty is binding and it has the same weight as if you were found guilty after trial.

In this scenario, the court will mail you a fine and the Department of Motor Vehicles will assess points against your license.  Eventually, your insurance company can find out about the conviction and either raise your rates or drop you as a client.

The Cost Of A Ticket

If you plead guilty to a 3, 4, 6, or 8 point first time speeding ticket, the court will impose a fine somewhere between $45.00 - $600.00 and impose mandatory New York State surcharge of $93.00.

A conviction which will results in 6 points will result in an additional $300.00 driver responsibility assessment (DRA) from the department of motor vehicles.  For drivers with more than 6 points, the DRA will be higher.
