About the Court

Sloatsburg Village is located within the Town of Ramapo in Rockland County.  It is a court of local jurisdiction and is part of the 9th Judicial District on the New York Office Court Administration.  The “9th JD” also includes Westchester, Orange, Putnam, and Dutchess Counties.

As a court of local jurisdiction, the court has a limited ability to adjudicate cases.  It has a limited power over felonies.  It can adjudicate all misdemeanors written under New York State law and fall within its geographic jurisdiction.

Common Misdemeanors

Some common misdemeanors heard in this court are:

Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle in the 3rd Degree.  This charge is often referred to as AUO 3rd.  It is an unclassified misdemeanor and can carry a jail sentence.  It is written under Vehicle Traffic Law 511.1

Our AUO lawyers have successfully defended thousands of clients under the Vehicle Traffic Law.  Although every case is different and needs to be evaluated on their own merits, we have strong tradition of helping our clients resolve this charge with a lesser included offense thereby avoiding a criminal conviction.

Driving While Intoxicated.  DWI is one of the most frequently charged crimes in New York State.  A conviction to a DWI can result a driver losing their privilege to drive, a jail sentence, and many other adverse consequences.

Assault in the 3rd Degree.  Assault in the 3rd degree is usually written Penal Law Section 120.00 or its related sections.  This is a class A misdemeanor which can carry up to one year in jail.  A typical charge will include some allegation of physical violence against another person.
