BEDFORD NY TRAFFIC TICKET LAWYER

ONE OF THE BUSIEST TRAFFIC COURTS

Bedford Town Court maintains one of the busiest traffic calendars in Westchester County.  A large contributing factor to its high volume of speeding tickets cases and traffic tickets cases is its proximity to the Saw Mill River Parkway and Interstate 684 (I-684).  Both thoroughfares are heavily traveled and provide frequent places for drivers to lose track of their speed and exceed the posted speed limit.

Despite its heavy court calendars, Bedford Town Court remains one of the most efficient and well run courts in the County.  This is due to its leadership from the Town’s Court Clerk.  The team of clerks is well organized and helps maintain an orderly flow of cases during some of the most busiest court calendars.

ABOUT THE COURT

Bedford Town Court is part of the State’s 9th Judicial District.  The 9th JD as it is commonly referred also includes Orange County, Rockland County, Dutchess, and Putnam County.

The court is known as a court of local jurisdiction. As a local court, it has limited power in the type of cases it can preside over.  In brief, it can preside over civil cases commonly referred to as small claims cases.  These cases can include but not be limited to landlord tenant cases, zone code violations, and contractual disputes.  It also has the power to adjudicated criminal cases.  The majority of criminal cases are misdemeanors.  The majority of cases heard in Bedford are traffic tickets.  These can include speeding violations and cell phone violations.

POLICE

There are many different police agencies with the power to issue tickets in Bedford.   Most tickets issued on I-684 are written by the New York State Police from Troop K.  Tickets that are issued on the Saw Mill River Parkway are usually issued by the Westchester County Police.  Tickets issued along the local roads are issued by the Bedford Town Police.

WHO PROSECUTES TICKETS?

The local Town Prosecutor prosecutes tickets issued by the New York State Police.  Tickets issued by the Town Police and County Police are prosecuted by the officers who issued the summons.

At a pre-trial conference, an alternate officer may be authorized to appear on behalf of the issuing officer in an attempt to resolve the matter.
