Worcester Town Court receives a large number of traffic tickets from many different police agencies.  These agencies include but are not limited to the New York State Police (Troop C), New York Park Police, Sheriff’s Office, and the Town Police.  One of the contributing factors accounting for their large ticket numbers is the location on Interstate 88.  I-88 is a major highway that accommodates thousands of drivers each day.  I-88 traverses in an east-west direction.  It is provides a quick route for drivers to travel from the Albany region to Binghamton.  While the vast majority of drivers strictly observe the posted speed limits, a small minority of drivers exceeds the maximum speed permissible under law.  These drivers can find themselves on the receiving end of a hefty speeding ticket.

ABOUT THE COURT

Worcester Justice Court is located at 29 Katie Lane, PO Box 294 in Worcester NY. It is located in Otsego County.  The court employs two part time judges.  Both Judge William J. Fisher and Judge Brian P. Keenan share judicial responsibilities.  The primary function of the Justices is to uphold the laws and rules of the Constitution and adjudicate cases within their jurisdictional boundaries.

The court is a court of limited jurisdiction.  In other words, there is a limit to the size and scope of cases that they can hear.  For example, they can administer justice on civil matters where the monetary value in controversy is up to $3,000.00.  On the criminal side, it is primarily a misdemeanor court.  By and large, the majority of cases heard in this court are traffic tickets.  Traffic tickets are usually offenses such as speeding and talking on a cell phone.

Traffic tickets are prosecuted by the Otsego County District Attorney’s Office.  Otsego County is probably best known for being home of the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame.
