Hancock Traffic Lawyer: An Inside Look Into The Court

Hancock contains both a Town and Village Court.  A large number of moving violations are issued for  speeding under both VTL 1180(b) and VTL 1180(d).  Our traffic ticket defense lawyers have been representing client's in Hancock for many years.

The vast majority of tickets are issued along the Route 17 corridor.  Route 17 is a major thoroughfare for students going to and from college as well as parents en route to their children’s summer camp. Recently, Route 17 has been the site of many construction projects.  We have noticed that many drivers have been issued speeding tickets under VTL 1180(F).  These tickets carry enhanced penalties and have been traditionally very difficult to defend.
the Town Court instead of the Village Court.

Hancock Traffic Court is located next to Town Hall
The Town Court is located at 661 West Main Street in Hancock New York.  Some GPS navigation systems will erroneously instruct drivers to a local cemetery.  If you have a difficult time finding the court, you can find it directly across the street from the Sunoco gas station.  The court is connected to Town Hall.  If you a facing the front of the building, the court is located on the left and the town clerk is on the right.

Hancock Town Court is a court of limited jurisdiction.  It has the power to adjudicate misdemeanor matters and civil matters commonly referred to small claims cases.   Some other cases heard in this court can include but is not limited to felony cases for the purpose of local court findings and landlord tenant cases.

Court tip: one of the worst things you can do is to ignore your ticket.  Failure to Answer a ticket can result in a suspension of a driver's privilege to drive.  If a driver is caught driving with a suspended license a police officer may arrest the driver and charge them in a criminal act.
