On November 25, 2011, the New York Times published a story that highlighted the legal plight of a Mr. Juan Bannister.  According to the article Mr. Bannister hailed a taxi cab for an individual that was not part of his social party, received a nominal tip, and was arrested by the NYPD.  The lessoned learned, next time you hail a taxi or receive help from someone hailing a taxi, beware of some little unknown laws.
