Ticketing has Increased for Texting While Driving

According to reports, ticketing in Westchester County including the City of Yonkers for the offense of texting while driving is way up from a year ago.

Lohud.com has reported that the County Police Department has issued165 texting while driving tickets in 2011.

This is a sharp increase to the 100 tickets they had written in 2010.  Similarly, ticketing for the same offense is up in Rockland County and Putnam County.

On July 12, 2011, Gov. Andrew Cuomo eliminated a loophole that did not allow for ticketing a driver for texting while driving as a non primary offense.
